At the beginning of each year, I write down a few dream portrait sessions I would like to do that year. Sometimes they are accomplished by model calls and in others you get a surprise and a client fulfills the dream session. I got lucky and was introduced to this lovely family that had horses and was expecting their precious bundle of joy. I got lucky and got to photograph a maternity session with horses.
Pregnancy is a season of beauty, strength, and anticipation—a time when a mother’s love for her baby is already deeply felt. When you add the majestic presence of horses to a maternity session, the result is nothing short of breathtaking. Recently, I had the joy of capturing a stunning maternity session in Sundance, WY, where the golden sunlight met the rolling hills, and the gentle mares stood by their owner, creating a moment of serenity and connection.
There’s something incredibly special about incorporating horses into a maternity session. Their calming presence, natural elegance, and deep bond with their owner create a peaceful and almost ethereal atmosphere. Watching a mother-to-be softly stroke her horse’s mane or walk hand-in-hand with her partner through an open field is a reminder of the beauty of both new life and lifelong companionship. These sessions highlight the deep connection between mother, baby, and the animals that hold a special place in their hearts.
A maternity session with horses is more than just a photoshoot—it’s an experience filled with love, tranquility, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of life. If you’re expecting and would love to include your beloved horse in your maternity photos, I’d love to help you create a session that reflects your journey into motherhood in the most magical way.
To the Reese Family, thank you so much for allowing me to capture these precious memories for you! Your family is so sweet, and it was great getting to know you guys better. I can’t wait to see you all continue to grow together.
Enjoy this little peek into this sweet maternity portrait session.
